Live At Cause

When you live "at cause", you are in charge of your life. When you are "at effect", life is in charge of you.

At any moment, you are totally, 100% at the effect of the world around you. No matter what happens, you will react accordingly. At the same time, the world around you is totally, 100% at the effect of you. No matter what you do or don't do, the world around you will react to you. This makes you the cause.

You are totally at the effect of everything around you. You are also the cause. You are both "cause" and "effect" at the same time. You react to the world around you and the world reacts to you.

Although you are both "cause" and "effect", you only experience yourself as being one or the other. You either experience yourself as being "the cause" of your life or you experience yourself as being "at the effect."

How you experience yourself at any moment determines both the quality of your life and your effectiveness.

When you experience yourself as being "at the effect", you feel powerless. Instead of being on top of your situation, your situation is on top of you. You become a victim of your circumstances. You shut down and become very negative. Confidence and effectiveness quickly disappear.

Any time you are upset or are in the presence of an area of your life that isn’t working, you are at the effect. Find a time when you felt this way and notice how painful it was.

An example of living at cause

Now find a time when you are "at the effect" of something and for some reason, you decided that you had had enough. You reached your limit and decided to take action. You then grabbed your situation by the horns and started handling it.

Notice how you felt the moment this happened. Instantly you got your power back. Instead of your circumstances being on top of you, you were on top of your circumstances. You felt good about yourself and good about life. You became confident and full of energy.

You also became very effective. You either resolved your situation, or at the very minimum, you got power over it.

Without knowing, you shifted from being "at the effect" to being "at cause." You changed your life and you did it with nothing more than a thought.

When you live your life "at cause", you have power over your life. You can chart your course and make your dreams come true. When you live your life "at the effect," you make yourself a victim. You lose your power and stay stuck.

What puts us at "the effect."

Living at the effect is a very painful state. It is also something we create. Any time you are at the effect, there is a truth that you are fighting. For example: your spouse wants to leave or you don’t have enough money to pay the bills.

This area of your life is the way that it is whether you like it or not. When you are at peace with the truth of the way your situation is, you have peace of mind. You see your situation clearly and can see what needs to be done. When you fight the truth, you give your power to whatever you are resisting. You put yourself at the effect and destroy your ability to take effective action.

Look at any area of your life that isn’t working. This will be an area of life where you are fighting the truth. Instead of looking for what needs to be done based on the way your situation is, your focus is on fighting the way your situations is. Instead of resolving the problem, you give it power.

The key to living "at cause" is simple. Don't stay "at the effect." As soon as you notice that you are "at the effect" of something, stop. Stop being "at the effect" and move to "cause."


To make the shift from being "at the effect" to being "at cause," take the following steps:

  • 1. Identify the specific circumstance that you are at the effect of.
  • 2. Surrender to the truth of what's so.

  • 3. Look to see what needs to be done based on the truth of the way your situation is.

  • 4. Take whatever action you need to handle this area of your life.


The moment you surrender to the truth, fear, upset and tunnel vision lose power. You see your situation clearly and can see what needs to be done.

The moment you start taking action, you shift from being at the effect to being at cause. Instantly, you get your power back. Confidence and effectiveness return. Solutions appear and the problem area starts clearing up.
